Ruth Badger Ginsburg was an American lawyer and jurist. She served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in 2020. Ginsburg spent much of her legal career advocating for gender equality and women's rights, serving as a member of ACLU's board of directors and general counsel in the 1970s. Before her confirmation to the Supreme Court, she also served as a judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for over a decade. Ginsburg died from complications of pancreatic cancer in September 2020.
